Havasupai Volunteer Trip, January 22-25
Supai, Arizona

This weekend Arizona Outback Adventures is hosting a volunteer-based trip to to help out remote 400-person village of Supai that was destroyed by a flash flood last August. Debris choked the centuries-old village’s river and its four scenic turquoise falls (one, Navajo Falls, is simply gone), so the Havasupai tribe was forced to close off the entire area to tourists, its only real source of income. But you can help them get back on their feet. Participants will backpack 10 miles down to the campground, where they’ll stay in a base camp with meals provided by Arizona Outback while they focus on clearing debris and building new trails. What’s in it for you? The satisfaction of helping out in one of the most beautiful spots in the Southwest — and getting a first look at a couple of sights the world has never seen. If you miss out on this weekend’s trip, there’s another scheduled for February 19-22 ($109 for transportation, $96 for food; aoa-adventures.com). Read more about this trip and in the “Forbidden Places” article published in Men’s Journal’s January issue.
