Raft the Futaleufu River
Part roller coaster, part drop-and-pool, the crystal-clear Futaleufu features 28 miles of Class III, IV, and V rapids. While the first week of March has traditionally been the best time to visit — you can register to race downriver during the annual Futa Fest — go now: The Chilean government recently approved the Hidroaysén Dam, which could soon end the Futa’s run as a world-class river. The appellate court is listening to cases against the dam’s construction and will release their final decision in December.
