Seems like a pretty glaring omission seeing as how the Great American Beer festival is held in Denver every year.

It's great to know that some of the most cultural, vibrant cities celebrate beer as much as the rest of their heritage. I can see why so many people enjoy visiting these cities, or making them a home.

Sure, the bleacher seats at Wrigley Field are still awash in Bud Light, but the Second City's craft-brew scene is overflowing — and still expanding. Across the street from the ballpark, Goose Island's Wrigleyville brewpub pours everything from its easy-drinking Green Line Pale Ale, a new brew, to its knock-you-on-your-ass Bourbon County Stout, which weighs in at 13.5 percent alcohol by volume. In the Wicker Park neighborhood, Piece is worth a visit for its exceptional, New Haven-style pizzas and house-made beers (I dig the award-winning Golden Arm, a German-style kolsch).

Food & Wine Magazine calls San Diego County “one of the most dynamic beer scenes in America and arguably the world,” and Sunset Magazine says “…when it comes to beer, all roads lead to San Diego.” While there are countless craft beer innovators in the great state of California and the entire nation, we agree that our little palm tree-bedizened county has earned a special place in the craft beer movement. That’s why we, along with our San Diego craft beer brethren, decided to start San Diego Beer Week. San Diego Beer Week (SDBW) is a ten-day, county-wide festival from November 6-15th. We’ll be hosting special events here at Stone every day during SDBW, and our own “Grandfather of Beer Geeks” and infamous beer hoarder.

Hahahaha agreed. San Francisco and San Diego are NOTHING alike. And how has no one noted that San Diego has internationally renowned beers.
Ballast Point won World Beer Cup 2010 Champion Brewery and Brewmaster for Small Brewing Company, and took home 3 golds
Fathom IPL-Gold
Barrel Aged Piper Down Scottish Ale-Gold
Sculpin IPA-Gold

Pizza Port
Revelations-Silver
Reed's Wee Heavy Scotch Ale-Bronze
Port Truck Stout-Silver
Shark Attack imperial red-Bronze
sticky stout-Silver

Green Flash Stout-Silver
AleSmith Decadence-Bronze
Karl Strauss Red Trolley-Gold
Lost Abbey Red Poppy-Silver

Alpine Brewing Co.
O'Brien IPA-Gold
Duet-bronze
Token-bronze

Not to mention Stone which people seem to love

Sorry kids but the city of San Diego took home more awards from the World Beer Cup than the entire state of Oregon last year...

Also, San Diego beer is not, in general, hoppy. Stone is hoppy and it appears that most people assume all San Diego beer is like Stone.

Ballast Point's Victory At Sea Imperial Porter is the most amazing beer I have ever had (especially on Nitro).

And I've heard great things about Colorado beer. I'll have to get out there sometime.

[...] I quietly finished my delicious Laurelwood IPA and ordered the next thing off the chalkboard, which was Lucille IPA. I took one sip of the Lucille… it was so delicious that if Mr. Laurelwood himself were standing there with me I would have slapped him in the face. No, not really, but you get my point… Lucille was the truth. I looked it up on my phone, and what do you know… Lucille is from Georgetown Brewery, brewer of Manny’s, brewed less than two miles from my townhouse. So yes I know, beers deteriorate as they travel, and I’m sure had I been in Portland I would have preferred the Laurelwood better. But it just puts in perspective the kind of arbitrarily dorky proclamations found in articles like these.
Seriously?! Colorado has the most breweries in the nation, and there is no mention of it! Have you been to Fort Collins? The town is basically built upon breweries and beer culture. Tour de Fat is put on by New Belgium and is the largest in the country and I think somewhere close to 20,000 attended last year. This article is misinformed.

This is the most absurd thing I've ever seen. How is St. Louis, the home of the Great American Lager, not on here? Even though the Belgians bought them out, Anheuser Busch will always be the greatest brewery to come out of the US. All this microbrewery, craft beer nonsense won't ever compare to the great taste of an ice cold Bud Light. Get your heads straight and drink what real Americans drink...cheap, light, tasty lagers...or whiskey.

Maybe the article should just list the top ten cities. I don't care who is #1. Let's just celebrate the fact that there are plenty of cities to get good beer now.

quality over quantity...go San Diego!! If you are in La Mesa, then try Hoffers. It has over 24 PREMIUM beers on tap (mostly over 8%) and has a good variety of cigars to try. It's a classy little joint that I cant get enough of.

I didn't know that San Diego is the beer capital of the US. I plan to visit there next week, so I'll try to see ...and check out your list! Thanks for posting, although I see a lot of violent reactions and comments from viewers, hhmm but then again, you can't please everyone. But thanks anyway!

Dude, you have clearly never been to San Diego. Did you read the article? 33 breweries! Believe it, we have some of the best beer in the States and we do have the best brewery in the world in Stone brewery...yeah, it won for that. Sorry, but you little list here shows ignorance. Come to the D and enjoy a brew, there will be plenty of options at every corner. Hamiltons is my favorite place in the country, the entire ceiling is full of old keg taps. Effing awesome.
