With its proximity to downtown, the river and the resurgence of the Freight House district it is no wonder we are being compared to Boulder, Colorado. Some of the homes in this area are over a hundred years old and have a lot of history, if you are into quaint brick and tree lined streets, this is the place for you.California avenues mansion row is where it all started, sitting on a bluff high above the Truckee river with spectacular views is where this neighborhood began. Originally a dirt road it is the center piece of your historical tour Old Southwest Reno. Jack Dempsey the prize fighter actually lived in a house on California avenue back in the 30's. I was selling a house on Donner Avenue that was built in the 30's and one of the original neighbors told me that it was originally sold in a Sears catalog. Most of the homes major systems have been changed out, from the original coal shutes to oil furnaces and now mostly natural gas. The houses that fetch the most money are the ones that have been left as original as possible with the hardwoods, original tiles and fixtures intact. "Ginger or Mary Ann", you may have heard this before from Gilligans Island. Odgen, UT scores a pretty average rating according to http://www.areavibes.com/ogden-ut/city-guide/. It does have a low cost of living but doesn’t score very well in the crime category and the median household income also falls about $10,000 below the national average.

I just moved to Ogden a year ago, and I don’t believe it is one of the BEST places to live. Though it does seem safe and good for families. Me and my husband like to travel around to other places in Utah, so it is really nice to be able to go out and have fun, but still have a calm place to come home to. My biggest complaint is that there is no Buca di Beppo, Cheesecake Factory, In and Out or LA Fitness. But that is just because I’m from the valley in AZ and I miss them all!

Yes Ogden, Utah is a great place to live and visit. The downtown area around 24th and 25th street is a very nice place to eat drink and be merry with freinds. Plus Sniders Meat on Harrison Blvd. has the best Santa Maria Tri-Tip around. Stop in and check it out.

The old Southwest neighborhood of Reno is one that captured my imagination the first time I lived here as a student at UNR. I moved away to New England and eventually came back to buy one of it’s brick bungalos. My wife and I love the idea of being able to walk to the many river and downtown events from our front stoop. We’re also minutes from the river bike trail that winds between Sparks and Reno, thanks for the great article.

The CityCarShare pod at UCSF just started carrying jetpacks last month–if you’re not a member, then take 280 South and then cut west under the City until you spill out onto the Great Hwy. It’s 20 minutes, not 15, and this presumes you wish to picnic on Ocean Beach at 3am . . .

The Dogpatch is fantastic. It will only get better once the new waterfront park, pedestrian streets, and redeveloped Piers goes in as the “Mission Rock District”. They are also planning a new Muni line that goes directly to Union Square/China Town.

ah you missed Tucson Arizona, particularly the barrio historico just south of downtown, full of adobe row houses brightly colored, anchored by cushing st bar & restaurant, el minuto mexican restaurant, casa vicente’s tapas bar, and more. mix of new singles & families old & young, & long-time mexican american families. save me from the sprawling foothills and outlying deserts overgrown with one-look-fits-all developments, give me downtown, music and dancing, and life in the barrio.

One of the best parts of Dogpatch neighborhood, though not mentioned in this article, are the gastronomical treasures. Delicious restaurants and cafes are popping up and Dogpatch even has it’s own winery, Crushpad. How many SF neighborhoods can attest to that?
