Barrica (or Roble as it's also known) is a relatively new classification of wine in the Ribera del Duero wine region. It's in between a Joven and a Crianza in the Joven, Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva classification scale. Typically a Barrica or Roble wine will have been aged in oak for 4 to 6 months before being released. The Joven is generally not aged in oak at all and the Crianza (the word Crianza translates as "aged") is aged a minimum of 12 months in oak and another 12 months in the bottle at the winery. Enjoy!
