Multiroom setups and mood “scenes” can cost into the thousands of dollars, but our favorite quick and easy smart-lighting upgrade is the Lutron Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Sensing Switch. It detects fine motions, turning on the lights when someone’s in the room — and turning them off when no one’s there. It also works with energy-­saving compact fluorescent and LED bulbs.
