If Al-Qaeda Cps Chief for Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, had been there when he was captured, Ware would have LOST his freakin head and NOT his mind (as it appears he had for awhile). And, yes, Iran was/is fighting a proxy war with us and we didn’t seem to know it for 4yrs. Unfortunately, we will have to DEAL with IRAN and Hezbollah in the not-to-distant future once and for all.

Nick and Rick – totally disagree. Yes Ware gets to be on TV – but he’s a journalist. Is he a star as you sneer? Well you can be too if you risk your life in pursuing ideals. And he’s got more balls than any 5 of us. If he is a bit grandiose and a lot messed up, its our duty to accept and honor that. Anything you don’t like and can’t accept about this man reflects your cosseted life and denial about the real world.

As a Brisbane person myself, I have watched the change in Ware over the last decade or so. And while the overall conduct of the “War of Terror” has deeply disappointed me, those doing their best in their various capacities in its various theaters are not for us to criticize. I say that about the GI making a bad decision right now and about Mr Ware chain smoking and waking at 4pm with a hangover.

To quote my favorite movie this year, “Nut up or Shut up”.

No mate, lovely sentiments but Warey would really HATE a statue of himself anywhere. He’d likely film himself pissing on it and post that to You-tube to take the joke just that much further.
I got to know him back in the mid 90s as a young, dynamic investigative journalist in Brisbane and did get to catch up with him on one of his visits back to Australia from his time with Time Mag in Baghdad before his switch to CNN and rumoured retirement from CNN this week. I was his regular point of contact for posting back stories from Afghanistan and Pakistan and learned quickly that he went that extra mile not for glory but to get the full story from both sides of the conflict.
I hope to one day again get to catch up and enjoy a beer with him and hope that in the two years since this story was published, that he’s become more at peace with the turmoil of this world.
